Offering Self Rescue and Strokes classes to the Spring Hill area!

Hi! I'm Nikki Scarnati
I am a Swim Instructor focusing on Self Rescue basics and Stroke Development!
As a first time mom, I was very nervous that I had a newborn in a home with a pool in my backyard. Most parents don't know that a pool will be the most dangerous thing you'll ever own . That sent me on a hunt to find high quality swim lessons for my daughter.
She started lessons at 9 months, and I absolutely fell in love with the results. I KNEW this was my calling! My passion is teaching your family about water safety and watching them build the confidence in the water, while growing trust with my parents and students along the way!
I am a Board Member of Swim for CJ and an Under Water Hypoxic Blackout Ambassador. I am also an internationally published instructor mostly known for my water safety content on social media.
I have been featured on Good Morning America, Parents Magazine, People Magazine, New York Times, Daily Mail, and so many other prestigious news outlets.
I spend a lot of time educating our community about water safety and drowning prevention because drowning is still the number one cause of death in children under 5. Lowering these statistics starts with education, water safety and high quality swim lessons.

Self-Rescue swimming teaches essential survival skills that help a person stay calm, float, breathe and move safely to the edge or shore if they fall in the water. It focuses on controlling breathing , maintaining buoyancy, and using simple movements to conserve ernegy. These techniques, often taught to young children, build confidence and can prevent drowning by giving swimmers the ability to save themselves in an emergency.
Self Rescue swimming focuses on a high frequency swim schedule to establish skills through repetition. A little bit each day, breeds long term results through consistency and muscle memory.
*What your child will learn:
Children from 6 months to 24 months will learn how to hold their breath underwater, roll onto their back and float unassisted until someone rescues them.
A child over the age of 2 years will learn how to hold their breath underwater, swim head down, and roll onto their back to float or side swim to rest and breathe. All children will learn how to perform the skills in different types of clothes. Upon completion , your child will have the survival skills necessary to save himself along with the enjoyment of recreational swimming.
Class Structure: Your child's classes are 4 days a week. Each class will be approximately 10 minutes long with just one child and their instructor in the water. Much is accomplished in a short but very intense private lesson. Your child will have the same 10 - minute time slot each day. You can expect your child to be skilled in an average of 7-8 weeks.
When working with infants and toddlers it is important to understand how important routine, and consistency is at play to build skills. Their attention spans are as little as they are! We want to break things down to allow the child to work at their pace and to build a skill set that will last!
Keep in mind any students master the art of floating before they learn to walk or talk. Practicing a little bit each day over a span of time will be more effective for younger children than a couple lessons per week in a longer lesson.

Strokes lessons are for established swimmers who want to grow and refine their skill set. This program is ideal for students who have skilled or aged out of the self rescue and want to begin swimming as a recreational activity. This program is for parents who are happy to progress their child’s skills more slowly over time.
This more traditional program follows skill progression from established self rescue skills to intermediate and ensures that your child receives personalized programming every week. With feedback and exercises in a safe and supportive environment. Over the years your child will learn all the age-appropriate and much-needed water skills to feel confident and comfortable in the water.
Class Structure: 1 day per week for 15 minutes a day. Want more in water time? Awesome! You're welcome to select 2 slots to either swim for 30 minutes 1 day per week or opt for 2 days per week for 15 minute increments.
As stated in the description, your child must be able swim and float in order to enroll in these classes. This program is designed to build off of the foundation that is set through Self Rescue lessons. Please keep this in mind when selecting the program right for your child.
1. Effective Supervision
The most critical line of defense is adult supervision. This includes during both swim and non-swim times. A majority of water accidents and drownings happen when children are not supposed to be near the water. If your child is ever missing, look in ALL places with water FIRST.
2. Pool Fences
Install a permanent 4- sided fence with self locking gates. Ensure that the pool fence is at least 3-5 feet from the pool edge. a 4-sided pool fence can decrease the chances of a water accident by more than 80%, compared to a 3-sided fence.
3. Locks & Alarms
Make sure all doors and windows, especially the ones leading to the pool area, are locked and alarmed. You can turn your home security's chime feature on, install stand-alone alarms, and use child safety locks.
4. Survival Swimming Lessons
A moment's inattention does not have to cost a child his/her life. Self-Rescue training is an added layer of protection, teaching your child water survival skills in a completely safe enviornment.
5. CPR
If an emergency happens, it is essential parents and families are prepared. Learn to perform CPR on children and adults and remember to update those skills regularly.
